Reykjavik, Iceland - Day One

Reykjavik is a much bigger city than we've been to previously.

Our map again and Jim is pointing to our port in the lower west side of Iceland.

Bob arranged for us to do a walking tour of Reykjavik with a lovely young woman. We got off the boat and took a taxi to the church on the hill.

The church and a selfie.

A waffle cart, you can sort of tell what it says.

Leifr Eiricsson statute in the square in front of the church.

A statue garden and museum. It was interesting and somewhat weird.

They paint their houses very colorful to brighten the dreary days. I especially liked the lime green one.

They commission people to paint murals on the sides of buildings and concrete walls to cover up graffiti and keep the graffiti away.

I liked this one especially when she pointed out that the fish is in the shape of the country of Iceland.
Very cute!

I took several pictures of street signs just because they were such different words.

I also took pictures of street signs because someone in town is putting plastic army men and other creatures on top of the street signs. If you look closely at the left picture at the top of the sign you'll see something and on the right when I zoomed in this is what it was.

A dinosaur and an army man.

And this one is self explanatory and it was on top of The Deli sign.

A view down one of the streets to the water.

The tour being over we headed to the famous hot dog stand.

The hot dog stand and waiting in line.

Enjoying our hot dogs.

After lunch and some shopping it was time for our next tour.

But there's always time for a sword fight.

That's what it does, about every 5 minutes. It was really neat and makes an interesting sound.

This is the little Geysir and it just boils.

Then we went to Gullfoss falls. Another beautiful waterfall.

This waterfall really twists and turns for a magnificent view.

A cute wedding couple getting their pictures taken at the falls. What a beautiful place for lasting memories.

A great shot of the whole thing.

This is for my sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Larry, we had the driver stop so we could take a picture of the diver crossing sign.

Our last stop was here at Pingvalla.

This is also a place where the North American and European tectonic plates are separating.

It was so cold and windy, we didn't stay long.

These splitting tectonic plates are fascinating to see.

The landscape here in the southwest is so different than the last few days in the north.

We got back to the ship at about 8:00pm and went for a quick bite of dinner and then off to bed. We're up early tomorrow morning for a whale watching tour.
